A Home Within the Fabric of the Neighborhood

The plot in Näsby Park is long and narrow, with its short side facing the street. The biggest challenge here was to create a functional home for a large family, with different needs and generations, while also ensuring that the house blends into a neighbourhood characterized by buildings from many different eras.

We chose to divide the building into two smaller volumes connected by a glazed link. This gives the house a smaller scale and a welcoming appearance toward the street. At the same time, the two volumes form a protective spine toward the neighbors, creating a quiet, private oasis on the opposite side a courtyard where landscape and architecture interact.

The floor plan is clearly organized: the basement houses a secondary entrance, a family room, and a small spa area. The entry level is the social heart of the home, with kitchen, dining area, and a separate apartment for extended family. The upper floor is fully private, with a master suite and bedrooms for the children.

The volumes are also offset in height and clad in cedar wood and standing seam metal, giving the building a light expression and a silhouette that hints at a pitched roof, even though the structure has a flat roof. The material palette is restrained: concrete, limestone, and wood dominate, requiring a high level of craftsmanship and carefully detailed transitions.

Despite the major interventions on the site, parts of the original natural landscape have been preserved. This creates a soft contrast with the built elements and strengthens the sense of place. The entrance is open and inviting, there are no fences and inside the courtyard you’ll find both an orangery and a ceramics studio that add life and depth to the home.

The project contributes a contemporary addition to the architectural fabric of Näsby Park, a new growth ring that reflects our time, while respecting the history and diversity of the place. It is an example of how we at Jordens work contextually, with care for detail, the whole, and everyday life.
